New Stuff in the Library

On several occasions, patrons have inquired about our new audiobooks and DVDs. While the new books are easy enough to find (with their own section), the new DVDs and Audiobooks are another matter.

So, dear patrons, we have heard you! For those who long for something new to listen to, watch or who just have an innate curiosity about what's new on the shelves of your Ligonier library, check the Blog!

Lists of our new materials will appear in posts on this Blog (and yes, I'll do some posts for books too). By using this method, patrons can not only see current lists but view older ones as well. So, if you forget a title or missed a post, you can go back and find it. How do you do this? Look along the right-hand side of the Blog for a section called "Labels," then click on one of the topics listed. This will allow you to see all of the posts that pertain to that particular subject. For instance, if you click on "book suggestions," you will see all of the posts we've ever written suggesting any of a variety of books.

If you want a list of new materials for the whole county, then you will need to visit our online catalog - POLARIS. On the left-hand side of the Polaris homepage, you will find a box with links to lists of new books, videos, sound recordings and more.

Happy searching!

Some books were donated, others withdrawn from the library's collection due to age, wear or lack of use. There are hardcover and paperback titles of all sizes. Some are a little dated, others a little faded - maybe a torn page or two - but they are too valuable for the trash bin. And... they are only 25¢ each! *

Stop in before 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21st and give an old book a new home!

* Re-Readables Bookstore will be open during the book sale. However, bookstore items are not included in the 25¢ sale. All items in the store are marked with a price inside the cover.

Romance is in the Book

This Saturday is Valentine's Day! It really shouldn't be a surprise. The displays of hearts, flowers, and candy that can be found in just about every store are a little hard to miss. So, with the most romantic day of the year knocking at our door... our thoughts naturally turn to our bookshelves.

Of course, there are classics such as any novel written by Jane Austen.

Lovers of Pride & Prejudice might want to read Colleen McCullough's new novel, The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet, which is a sequel to Pride & Prejudice. McCullough's story follows the misadventures of the wallflower sister who is now in her thirties and has bloomed into a beautiful woman.

If you are looking for a more modern tale of love and romance, try one of these:

Tomorrow's Promise by Sandra Brown
The Various Flavors Of Coffee by Anthony Capella
Nice To Come Home To by Rebecca Flowers
The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks

And what list would be complete without mentioning Stephenie Meyer's series that begins with the novel Twilight. Teen love can be challenging on a normal day, but when your true love turns out to be a vampire.... it leads to a wonderfully written tale.

Prefer a romantic movie? Or the sound of romantic music? Oh, we have those too. If you need help finding them, let us know.

No matter how you choose to spend the day (even if it's in quite rebellion), we hope you have fun!

PS - If you are spending the day in quite rebellion against all things "love," might we suggest curling up to a nice gruesome murder-mystery. Or perhaps something written by the Preston-Child duo or Stephen King?
