9/11 Anniversary Tribute

On September 11, 2001, the world changed forever....
Americans held their breath as the horrible news of a plane crashing into the World Trade Center's North Tower spread across televisions and over the airwaves. At first we were shocked by the idea that a plane could malfunction so tragically, but then the news broke that another plane had struck the South Tower and we knew this was no accident. The tragedies where never ending that day. Two more hijacked planes would meet terrible ends, crashing into the Pentagon and a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Many people gave their lives on 9/11 - firefighters and police officers rushing into towers that would collapse; innocent people trapped in the buildings and on the planes; a group of passengers who took matters into their own hands and forced their plane down before it could hit its target.

Quilt by Carroll Labarthe
Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, a mini-exhibit is on display just outside the Pennsylvania Room. The exhibit includes a mixture of photographs, newspapers, magazines, posters and more.

Featured in the display is a hand-painted, pieced and quilted wall hanging designed and created by local resident Carroll Labarthe. The quilt depicts one of the Twin Towers, and was inspired by a photograph from the New Yorker.

The mini-exhibit can be viewed during normal library hours, and will remain up through the end of September.

End of Summer Bargain Book Sale @ Ligonier Valley Library!

Ligonier Valley Library is having an end of summer clearance sale! Our storage room is bursting with hundreds of donated hardcover and paperback titles. Some are a little dated, others are a little faded and have a torn page or two, but they are all too valuable for the trash bin. All books are priced at 25 cents each!

The sale will open in the library's lower level community room on Saturday, August 27, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The sale will continue during regular library hours through September 17th.

Re-Readables, the library's book store, will be open during the book sale; however, store inventory is not included in the 25 cents sale.

We love your book donations, but...
We do not need any additional items for this year's book sale due to an excess of well-worn, older novels and titles already donated.

We are only accepting (at this time) current (hardcover and paperback) books, DVDs, videos, CDs, classics and collectible books in excellent physical condition for our Re-Readables book store.

Please call the library at 724-238-6451 prior to delivering older items. Thank you!
