New Graphic Novels @ the Library

Graphic novels are a popular and fun way for young adults (and even some adults) to read. In addition to a variety of stories featuring such superheroes as the Green Lantern, Batman, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, there are also some classic plays and stories that have been turned into graphic novels including many of Shakespeare's plays. The Graphic Novels section is located near the Large Prints - let your curiosity take you on an adventure as you discover a whole new way to enjoy reading.

Summer fun for kids @ Ligonier Valley Library

Summer reading is underway at the Ligonier Valley Library with all 3 of our programs - Summer Reading Club, Read-to-Me, and Teen Read.

Summer Reading Club is for children who have completed grades K-6. They meet every Thursday at 2:30 pm (unless otherwise stated) for a variety of fun programs, including a visit from magician Steve Haberman, Stage Right, and the annual 4th of July celebration.

Read-to-Me is for pre-school aged children. This program is for children and their parents or grandparents or even an older sibling who can read to them. Children can also be registered to attend one of our Summer Storyhour sessions.

Teen Read is for kids who have completed grades 7-12. This program is perfect for the busy teen who loves to read. There are no official meetings. Simply sign up, receive your packet, keep track of your minutes and turn them in... it's really that easy.

Registration for these programs began this week. But don't worry! You still have plenty of time to sign-up.

Pet Photo Contest @ Ligonier Valley Library - Submit Your Photos!

It's that time of year again! Time to show off your adorable pet or pets in our Annual Pet Photo Contest.

This year there are four categories: Dogs, Cats, Pocket Pets (hamsters, turtles, guinea pigs, etc) and Farm Pets (horses, goats, pigs, etc.).

Grab your camera, and start snapping. Entries must be turned in on or before Thursday, June 30th. Time is running out!

Entry rules:

• Entry Fee per photo is $1.00.
• Limit is two pets (in the same category) per photo and one entry per pet.
• No humans or deceased pets in photos please.
• Submitted photos can be either in color or black & white.
• They must be printed on high quality photo paper and unframed.
• Minimum size is 3"x5" and maximum size is 5"x7".

Voting will begin on July 1st, and winners will be announced on August 1st. Ballots are $.25 and can be purchased at the circulation desk.

Prizes for the contest are generously provided by the Loyalhanna Veterinary Clinic. All proceeds benefit the operations of the Ligonier Valley Library.

New DVDs @ Ligonier library

Weather in the Ligonier Valley has been a little unpredictable of late. One week the temperatures are reaching (and even surpassing) the 90s, and then the next we're ready to break out our fleece as it dips back into the low 70s. We won't even mention the whole rain/sun issue. One thing that will always remain consistent and predictable is that the Ligonier Valley Library will bring you new books and movies as often as possible.

Announcing eBooks @ Your Library

We are happy to announce that you can now borrow eBooks!

Adults and teenagers alike are receiving eReaders as presents.  While it's quick and easy to purchase a book, many of our loyal patrons have expressed a desire to be able to borrow eBooks from the library.  Thanks to the Westmoreland Library Network through Overdrive that is now possible.

To understand more about Overdrive and how borrowing eBooks works, we encourage you to visit our What is OVERDRIVE? website where you will find not only an explanation, but links to check device compatibility and more.

Once you are all set up and ready to begin searching for ebooks, you will only need to click on the Overdrive graphic located on our home page (beneath the Google Search box). This will take you to the eMedia website. Locate the title you wish to read, then check it out.  Make sure to have your library card handy as you will need this to complete the procedure.
